I 1990 blev Warehouse No.1 hos Glenmorangie lavet om til still house. I den forbindelse har de aftappet en Vintage 1989 i deres serie Collection Bond House No. 1.
Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1989 blev destilleret i nogle af de sidste dage i det gamle still house. Director of Distilling, Bill Lumsden siger: “I was fascinated by the distinctive character of that year’s spirit, so inextricably linked with the heritage of the former still house. Never again would Glenmorangie be distilled in that familiar old building – and I believed that we could celebrate its legacy in a truly momentous whisky.”
Vintage 1989 blev afsluttet i tidligere vin fade der har indeholdt Côte-Rôtie og i oloroso sherry fade og i bourbon fade.
Dr Bill Lumsden siger ogs: “In Glenmorangie Grand Vintage 1989 we have achieved an integration of Glenmorangie’s finesse, ripe red fruit notes from the ex-wine casks and oaky depths. For an expression of such great age, its sweet and smoky aromas are immensely varied – and its complex tastes are gloriously intense and rich.”
Astonishingly complex, with toasted marshmallows, almonds and a perfumed top note emerging alongside vanilla and fudge. Baked apples burst forth with red fruits, blackcurrants and tropical fruits, followed by freshly baked bread, beeswax and a hint of wood smoke.
Syrupy textures and a peppery sensation on the palate, lead to the richness of baked apples, buttery fudge and gentle citrus notes.
Orange blossom entwines with honey, eucalyptus oil, aniseed and leather in a long and powerful finish, ending with classic wood spices and oak shavings.
