The unreduced nose is powerful and fruity with notes of dark fruit cake, toffee and raisin. There's smoke, but it hangs in a light veil above this richness. Water brings out a hint of oil (codliver/diesel), wet coal and roasted, nutty notes alongside the sweetness.
The palate is where the smoke kicks in (bags of Caol Ila), but here too. Its impact is balanced by the sweetness (coming from the sherried contributions from Bunnahabhain and Bowmore). Beautifully balanced with a tingling, smoked, maritime finish. A true example of Islay pulling together.
