Highland Park har frigivet en 19 år gammel single cask aftapning til medlemmerne af Inner Circle. Det er Cask No. 2587, et refill hogshead der er aftappet.
Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion har udvalgt Cask No. 2587, der er destilleret i september 2001 og aftappet i aril 2021. Gordon siger: “There’s an intensely balanced smoky sweetness, driven by Orkney’s unique heathery peat, that runs like DNA through our whisky. But every single cask of Highland Park is also absolutely unique and reveals its own distinctive characteristics. I select a small number of our most exceptional casks to be bottled for our Single Cask Series, celebrating the spirit of individuality and the authentic craftsmanship that lies at the heart of our whisky making.”

Det er en 11 års aftapning og er den ældste til dato fra Fary Lochan
Den er produceret på ikke-røget dansk bygmalt og modnet i 11 år på first fill bourbon barrel, cask #01.

I næste måned kommer GlenDronach med batch 10 af deres Cask Strength aftapning.
CS10 er aftappet ved 58,6% og har udelukkende ligget på Pedro Ximénez og Oloroso Sherry casks
Noter (GlenDronach):
Colour: Chestnut bronze.
Nose: Mocha, apricot and baked orange chocolate cake, with roasted almond, walnut and raisin on a base of aromatic toasted oak.
Palate: Richly spiced fruitcake with nectarine, dark cherry and honeyed sultana.

Den 15. marts udkommer en ny bog skrevet af Ulf Buxrud. Bogen omhandler den legendariske Playing Card Series fra Hanyu og Chichibu Whisky Distilleries i Japan, destilleret af Akuto familien og aftappet af Ichiro Akuto-san.

It is a tale of the supreme collectible, enjoyable and valuable iconic whisky series ever made.
A near complete (54 of 58 versions) series was sold at Bonham’s auction house in Hong Kong November 20, 2020 for USD 1.5 million.
The book is a 170-page book of coffee table size (29x29x1cm) and quality is near art book style.
Its content encompasses the story of the Chichibu-Kikusui, Hanyu, Chichibu distilleries and the Akuto family.

Billy Walker der blandt andet står GlenAllachie, har i en længere periode udgivet whisky og rum under navnet MacNair’s.
Her findes en serie af blended whisky, kaldet Lum Reek.
Han kommer nu, som de andre steder han har været ansvarlig for, en 10 års Cask Strength Batch aftapning.
Lum Reek 10 CS er en blend af single malt whiskies fra Speyside og Islay.

"The aged whiskies were personally sourced by Walker before being blended together with GlenAllachie Single Malt. The spirit was then re-racked into specially selected Spanish Sherry casks, wine barriques and virgin oak casks for secondary maturation, allowing the whiskies to marry and additional characteristics to be attained from the wood. "
Billy Walker siger: “Without a doubt, the most fulfilling element of my role is blending and developing new recipes which enhance the taste experience of individual whiskies. MacNair’s Lum Reek allows me to think outside of the box and blend such a wide variety of Single Malts from across Scotland to achieve the profile I am looking for. ”

D7 i The Chess Malt Collection er nu frigivet. Der er tale om en 23 år gammel Glenburgie fra 1998.
Det er en Refill Hogshead aftappet ved fadstyrke på 54%

Appearance: A beautiful golden and bright color.
Nose: Notes of butterscotch, mango, cinnamon, oranges, passion fruit and pineapples.
Palate: This nice dram has a taste of nuts/almonds and it’s getting toasted in the taste with notes of jam, marzipan and apricots. Very fat and oily.
Finish: The finish is nice and long and creamy/oily with lots of fruit.

Der har i de sidste par været en del ældre aftapninger, både fra destillerierne, men også fra uafhængige aftappere. Nu melder Macallan sig på banen med denne 81 år gammel aftapning, destillereret i 1940 og nu aftappet 81 år efter.
Det er er en single cask aftapning, aftappet ved 41,5%
"While the deep auburn liquid has a gentle smoothness, in keeping with The Macallan’s signature taste, the complexity of its profile offers an array of flavours. There is a rich, sweet smokiness, attributable to the peat used when malting the barley and firing the stills during this period in time. The smoky note is subtle but unmistakable, complemented with antique oak. "
Og i vanlig Macallan stil, så får man selvfølgelig et spektakulær indpakning med. Ikke nok med en træ æske, men også en bronce skulptur der holder flasken
Noter (Macallan)
Nose: Dark chocolate, sweet cinnamon, aromatic peat, plums, leather, pink grapefruit, redcurrant jelly and a rich resinous note.
Palate: Treacle toffee, bramble jam, licorice, crystalised ginger, nutmeg, charred pineapple, pecans and woodsmoke.
Finish: Intensely rich, sweet and smoky.
